About Acurix

Making advanced medical imaging AI accessible to every practice.

Our Mission

Billions of dollars in NIH and private funding have produced remarkable breakthroughs in medical imaging AI. Yet the vast majority of these tools never reach the patients who need them. Incumbent solutions require expensive annual licenses, on-premise IT expertise, and complex integration -- putting them out of reach for community hospitals, rural practices, and smaller health systems.

The result is a growing gap: cutting-edge AI models are validated in journals and approved by regulators, but remain inaccessible to the community hospitals and rural practices where patients may need them most.

Acurix exists to close that gap. Our cloud-native platform runs entirely on AWS serverless infrastructure. There is no hardware to procure, no software to install, and no IT project required. Clinicians access AI-powered analysis from any browser, on any device -- whether they practice at a major academic medical center or a 25-bed critical access hospital.

What We Do

We build and deploy AI models for medical imaging analysis. Our platform currently supports prostate MRI analysis, native PET/CT viewing, whole-body anatomical segmentation, and focal therapy treatment planning -- with the ability to onboard new validated AI models in under a week.

Every model runs on shared, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure with full multi-tenant isolation, encrypted storage, and audit logging. Results are delivered as standard DICOM objects that integrate directly into existing PACS and reporting workflows.

Our Approach

  • Cloud-native: Serverless AWS architecture. No hardware, instant scaling, pay-per-use.
  • HIPAA-first: Multi-tenant isolation, encryption at rest and in transit, 7-year audit logs.
  • Open standards: DICOM in, DICOM out. RTSTRUCT segmentations. DICOMweb integration.
  • Accessible pricing: Orders of magnitude lower than incumbents. Serverless infrastructure eliminates hardware costs.

Thomas H. Sanford, MD

Founder & CEO

Dr. Sanford has practiced in Binghamton, NY, Aiea, HI, and Globe, AZ -- all far from major academic medical centers. It was this experience, seeing firsthand how patients at community hospitals go without the diagnostic tools available at large urban centers, that drove him to build Acurix.

During his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Sanford spent years developing and validating AI models for medical imaging alongside leading researchers in the field. The frustration was always the same: promising models would achieve strong results in published studies, but deploying them clinically required expensive infrastructure and specialized IT support that most hospitals simply don't have. The tools existed, but patients couldn't access them.

Acurix is the answer to this problem -- a platform designed from the ground up so that any hospital, regardless of size or resources, can offer its patients the most advanced AI-enabled diagnostic imaging.
